No Vitamins Mommy!

Mikaylee's pediatrician said we have to give her Tri-Vi-Sol.
One problem.  It makes Sweet Baby throw up like crazy.  I've tried giving it to her on an empty stomach, splitting the dose in half.. no matter what I do it comes up.

Yucky!

I have to be honest it tastes horrible.  I tasted it because I kissed her little cheek after she took it.  Hello nail polish remover with artificial flavors.. GAG!  Did your baby tolerate vitamins?  Any tips/tricks?  I wish I could just take the extra vitamins, but apparently the doctor said I don't pass enough from breastfeeding and she needs this.  Hopefully she'll tolerate it better soon, but until then it always turns her smile into a frown..

Happy Sad

  1. I started my son on Child Life Essentials Multi Vitamin & Mineral and he loves it. It tastes like candy. It's the one his doctor recommended.

  2. I haven't seen this before by my youngest is now 4.

  3. My daughter didn't have to take vitamins...I didn't know babies had to.

  4. I'd go back and ask the pediatrician if there's another one that he'd recommend. If she's vomiting these up, she's not getting the vitamins.

  5. Awww poor sweetie. I hope you find something that works!

  6. Aw! I am so sorry sweet baby is having a hard time with her vitamins. Maybe mix it in breast milk and feed her in a bottle?

  7. I think you should try asking the ped for another brand as well. Good luck.

  8. Awww. Poor baby. I wouldn't want to take them either.

  9. Yeah, those taste HORRIBLE! I actually tried to get Rite Aid to flavor them for me with the prescription flavors they have. They are able to do it, but only certain flavors will mask the Iron taste- Maybe you can look into it, but it is all artificial and I'm not sure if you would want that in your baby. Ask the pharmacy for more info :)

  10. My 1st pedi recommended those too - but my son had the same reaction. I made the choice to not give it to him after doing some research on the internet. We live in a sunny place, he gets lots of vitamin D, and I took a multi-vitamin and was exclusively bfing. When he started food, I made his food to make sure he wasn't losing the vitamins in the process. That stuff is NASTY!

  11. Iron taste is hard to hide - she'll get used to it and it'll seem normal to her in a few months.

    Good luck!

  12. Poor baby. Neither of our girls had to take supplements. Hope you figure something out!

  13. We ended up making the choice not to give them as well -- to any of my children. We live in Texas -- LOTS of sun here. And, I don't even remember my pediatrician recommending them till somewhere between 4-6 months?

  14. my doc said to give the baby vitamins too and when I looked it up it said that as long as i was eating healthy breast milk contained all the vitamins he needed so no vitamins for my child either. once he got older and started solid foods I tried again and snuck it in food

  17. My kids all took this too, and it is gross. I know a lot of Moms adjust their diet so that they are feeding baby higher amounts of these vitamins while breastfeeding, if that helps.

  18. I had forgotten about those drops, but yes, my kids took them too and they made faces but they did manage to keep most of it down, I think. I hope she handles it a little better soon.

  19. Aww, she doesn't seem to like it at all, but hopefully she tolerates it enough to get the vitamins in.

  20. Poor baby. I hope it gets better for her.

  21. Taht first picture is adorable!! Yes those vitamins were terrible!!

  22. Poor thing. I do hope that the vitamins do more help than harm!

  23. Gag. Vitamins on an empty stomach make me nauseated. I've thrown up from it before. Bless her heart!

  24. Poor thing, we had to shove vitamins down our kids for years

  25. Just seeing the bottle makes me queasy. I was given these until age 3-4. I then graduated to Flintstones!

  26. My son didn't need to take them, but a friend's son did, and it was nasty smelling, if I remember correctly.

  27. It tastes gross, and the Poly Vi Sol is even worse. You can taste the iron, and both formulations taste plasticky…they need to make an all natural formula (this one is filled with junk that I hate giving my child) that tastes good too. Why are they putting dyes in it, who cares about the color when it tastes so bad and dyes can be harmful?

  28. Sophia is supposed to take those vitamins as well (Poly vi sol) but HATES them. They smell awful and stain so badly so we don't push to much.

  29. Poor thing. Is there an alternative? Can it be flavored?

  30. It seems like I recall one of my kids having to take this as it looks familiar but it has been so long I don't remember, sorry I don't have any advice.

  31. It's still a struggle to give this to her.. poor baby takes it, but just can't keep it down. The doctor said it's okay since she's getting some, but what about all the breastmilk she's bringing up!? We finally see the doctor I chose prior to her birth on the 25th. Fingers crossed he has a better option for us!

  32. Nope my kids would do the exact same thing. I gave up until they could chew.

  33. Aaah, what a little cutie! I don't even remember what formula the kids use to drink. I think Soy..?

  34. Oh gosh, I know I gave my infants vitamins but I can't remember which brand. They hated the one you mentioned and since I test everything prior to administering it to my kids, I will agree that is tastes horrid!

  35. I agree with either asking for a different recommendation and just not giving them. You could ignore the face and just give them before eating. Once it's chow time, that face might disappear. :-)
