Breastfeeding Necessities: Balboa Nursing Cover R/G

Balboa Nursing Cover

When I brought Sweet Baby home I thought all my worries about nursing would just go away and everything would be perfect.  I didn't realize that it wasn't so easy.  I thought sure she'd latch and we'd be good to go.  So not the case.  After coming home I immeditaly starting getting sore nipples.  OUCH!    Within two days after being home Mikaylee spit up blood, and I was too tired to realize that she had such a bad latch that I was actually bleeding and it was my blood.  Thankfully her doctor said it was okay and it happens.  "Phew!"  Yes, this mama almost passed out seeing that site.  Although it was a little bit, it really terrified me!

So since mid-August we've been using a nipple shield.  For us it works.  Normally they advise you don't use them for prolong periods, but whenever I would take her off it would hurt so bad.  So bad that when I had the cracks and bleeding I had to actually take a break and pump for 3 days for them to heal a little.  Then I started getting a clogged duct and was told to nurse her.   That was the day we started with the shield, which we call her nip-nip.. we're weird  I know! It was then I was faced with a problem.  How could I nurse her in public when she doesn't latch right on and I have to bring this plastic piece everywhere?
Balboa Baby

Now I'm sure you remember when I reviewed Balboa's Shopping cart cover with my adorable little nephew!  Well I really love the quality of Balboa and also the pattern I chose so there wasn't a question what nursing cover I'd choose for my daughter!  That is where I thank heavens for my Balboa nursing cover.  It's easy to carry around and I can bring it wherever we go.  This way I can nurse my daughter in public and not have to be awkward while using the shield.  I first put the cover on, then the shield, then the baby!

I can see her beautiful little face as she nurses.  She can breath and it has an opening that allows for air flow, and did I mention how fashionable we look?  We also like to visit family frequently and since my daughter has quite the appetite she can nurse until the cows come home and I'll be happy knowing that I'm covered, and she's happy.  Happy mommy, happy baby. WIN!

So while we might not have a perfect latch, we do have the perfect solution.  Balboa is so generous and I cannot thank them for sending a nursing cover to review, and they've even offered to give one away to a reader! Just enter using the form below.

  3. I can so relate to the nursing problems. I just had a baby at the end of May and I'd say breastfeeding was the biggest challenge of having a newborn. It was a LOT of hard work and I can completely relate to all the things that happened to you (spitting up blood, soreness) but at this point I'm so glad I stuck with it. I really love it now. Covers like these are wonderful for going out in public and not worrying about making people uncomfortable.

  4. You know, I've never used a nursing cover. I stopped caring what people thought once my son reached about 6 weeks! LOL! Of course he nursed for 2 1/2 years, and the next nursed for three years. They are very pretty, though.

    1. I'm with you, Jennifer. Your baby needs to feed, it's not about others. You can be discreet enough, as long as you're not too self-conscious about it. Nursing covers are good for moms who aren't comfortable about it but still want to do such an awesome thing for their baby without having to be a home body.

    2. I feel for me it's extremely useful because like I said the whole issue with latching and using a shield. If she latched on naturally I may not be using this as much as I do, but for me it's so helpful!

  6. This is really a great share. I have never heard of a nipple shield and now I need to research this. I am still nursing my two year old and pregnant so my nipples are extremely sensitive. Thanks for sharing.

  12. I love the Red Poppy Trim or the Black/White Leaf. This would be so helpful right now. We live in Texas and they have awesome laws about breatfeeding, but my 3 month old is at the point that she doesn't want to cover up, and yanks the blanket off when she is able. We've been looking into cover-ups such as this, and it would be awesome to win one. :)
