Face painting is super fun for kids and lets their imaginations run wild. I'll never forget watching my niece get her face painted at the local fair - she turned into a beautiful butterfly princess and it was something she talked about for days and days after - what if you could do something like this in your own home? Think how fun this would be at birthday parties! Today I have a guest post to share and think you'll really enjoy!
Take a Walk on the Wild Side
Animal
faces are without doubt one of the most popular choices when it comes
to face painting designs. It’s not just a popular choice for kids
either, go to any music festival and you are just as likely to see find
adult tigers, butterflies and Dalmatians as you would children at a
birthday party. Whatever our age, when it comes to dressing up, nothing
beats animal magnetism.
The
best thing about face painting is that it is actually so simple, and
take it from me, you don’t have to be any kind of artist to do a good
job. You just need to know a few basic rules.
Firstly,
it is really important to try and use really good face painting
products. The main benefits of this are primarily health reasons; always
check that the paints you are using are suitable for sensitive skin and
are non-toxic. To be safe, check by doing a small test patch on the
inside of the wrist. I would really recommend one of the brand leaders, Snazaroo; their
products are not only safe, but they are really good quality. The
colours are long lasting and vibrant as well as really simple to put on
and take off. Check out the Snazaroo animal guide for some great inspiration and some step-by-step instructions to create some wild designs.
I really love this simple but vibrant tiger
face. To create that really electric orange look at the top, try doing
one coat and then waiting for it to dry before applying a second.
If something a little more domestic is more up your street, why not try the bunny.
With
both of these designs the key to their wonderful character is in the
smaller details, particularly the whiskers and teeth. Try to use fine,
clean brushes. Always keep some clean water with you to keep rinsing
your brush between designs. To make your brushes and sponges last
longer, make sure that you give them a really good clean when you are
finished and store them bristles up.
Finally,
don’t be afraid to experiment, and keep practicing! The effects can be
so magical, a total transformation that allows you to let your wild side
out!
