Sour Cream Coffee Cake

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/8 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup butter unsalted, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


  • 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. 
  • In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, sour cream, and vanilla.
  • Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined.
  • Pour cake batter into the desired baking dish, we use a springform pan.
  • In a separate bowl mix together the topping ingredients. 
  • Top batter with crumb topping
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.


When checking your cake with a toothpick make sure you're checking towards the center as the outer edges will cook much quicker than the center of the cake.
