It’s as simple as mixing sugar and ground cinnamon in the right ratio. Once you have it, you’ll find endless uses for this pantry favorite.

Homemade Cinnamon Sugar is the one spice mix you’ll want to keep in your pantry all year, but especially during baking season. With the perfect cinnamon sugar ratio (just the right balance of sweet and spice), you’ll have an 8 oz mason jar ready to sprinkle or measure out by the teaspoon or tablespoon!

This mix is my go-to for cinnamon sugar toast in the mornings, but it also makes a sweet topping for sweet breads like our apple cinnamon bread, soft pretzels, and it’s perfect for all of your baking recipes that call for cinnamon sugar.

Quick Bites About This Recipe

Flavor: Classic cinnamon warmth with sweetness from sugar
Skill Level: Beginner-friendly, just mix and store.
Swaps: Try brown sugar for a deeper flavor or coconut sugar for a caramel note.
Make Ahead: Lasts several weeks in an airtight mason jar.
Variations & Substitutions: Use on pretzels, swirl into sourdough bread, or sprinkle on raw sugar cookie dough before baking for easy cinnamon sugar cookies.

Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Ingredients

Granulated sugar: Sweet and the base of the mix. Cane sugar works too, but white sugar gives the most classic taste.
Ground cinnamon: Warm spice and the star of the show. I like Ceylon cinnamon best!

Recipe Tips and Notes

  • This recipe uses a 1:4 ratio (1 part cinnamon to 4 parts sugar), which gives a strong, bakery-style flavor. For a lighter flavor, use 1:6 (1 part cinnamon to 6 parts sugar). For a very mild blend, go 1:8. Adjust to your needs and taste.
  • Try swapping in brown sugar for a brown sugar cinnamon syrup vibe when stirred into drinks.
  • Make extra and gift in mason jars during the holidays.
