We like to enjoy our slow cooker pulled chicken when the cooler months hit. It’s comfort food and set and forget! For years I never used a  slow cooker to cook meals. It wasn’t until I started working crazy hours a few years ago that I bought one and fell in love. Slow Cookers are great for prepping dinner and allowing it to cook for hours, even if you’re not home. I have used it for stocks overnight too!

You can easily double this bbq pulled chicken to make for guests.

This slow cooker bbq chicken uses our homemade bbq sauce, but I leave the water out of the recipe. When you’re cooking the chicken in a slow cooker you’re going to notice that the chicken will release water, so that will add to the sauce. You could double the sauce if you like a lot of sauce on your pulled chicken.

We use one batch of sauce for 4 organic chicken breasts. If you’re not using organic chicken breasts you may notice that your chicken breasts are larger. If you’re using 4 large chicken breasts we suggest doubling the sauce. This sauce is so good you’ll want to have extra at all times, we drizzle some on top of the cooked chicken too!

If you like onions you can also make this slow cooker bbq chicken recipe like we make our BBQ Pulled Pork Recipe by adding onions into the crockpot while cooking the chicken.

How long does it take to cook chicken in a slow cooker on high?

Depending on the size, it usually takes about 2-3 hours on high. I usually go for the higher setting since I’m home when it’s cooking. If you want to cook chicken breast in the slow cooker on low you’ll set it for 4-5 hours. To make slow cooker shredded chicken that is falling apart you want to cook it for a while so the protein and connective tissues break down and become super tender, it will easily fall apart just using a fork.

We love enjoying these as a slow cooker pulled chicken sandwich but you could also just serve plain with your favorite sides. It’s also really delicious over our air fryer baked potato.
