I love to eat out.. who doesn’t? When I do it’s either DP’s Pub or our local Chinese place. I always feel guilty after eating my favorite fried chinese food recipes though.. I’ve always thought the food tastes wonderful, but do I really need to have all the fried stuff? I rather just have the sauce and steam the veggies and protein. So now when I do eat out that’s exactly what I get – but sauce on the side. You’d be surprised how good it is without being fried! So that got me thinking.. it must be simple to do at home – save the money and I control the ingredients! (organic vegetables and protein) Less sodium, less oil, and I can control the spice! 🙂
My husband goes straight for the fried stuff like General Tso’s and Orange Chicken. So he of course requested Orange Chicken! I like things with spice and find that there’s not enough in our local restaurant I loveeee heat!
Spicy Sesame Orange Sauce
3/4 Cup Orange Juice
1/2 Teaspoon Sesame Oil
1/8 Cup Low-Sodium Soy Sauce
1 Tablespoon Vinegar
1/8 Teaspoon Dried Ginger ( or 1/4 teaspoon fresh)
4 Cloves Garlic
1/4 Teaspoon Onion Powder
1 Teaspoon Cornstarch
1 Teaspoon of Brown Sugar
(Pinch of Chili Flakes and 1 Tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds)
In a blender or small food processor combine all ingridients down to the brown sugar. In a small pan cook until boiling. Once boiling add in the chili flakes and sesame seeds. Pour over chicken and serve with vegetables and starch of choice.
I like to serve mine with quinoa and edamame – broccoli too but we ran out 🙂
Would I just leave out the chili flakes for no heat? I like making my own recipes too.
This looks so good! My husband loves hot stuff so he’d love this!
It looks so good, love it!
YUM!!!!!!!!!
sounds so good and easy. I would leave out the flakes though because only my husband loves spicy food :/
Girl, I love me some heat too. So much! That looks and sounds like I need to eat it immediately!
My daughter loves Orange Chicken but not overly spicy, so I think I’ll try this one without the chili flakes.
I make a similar stir fry. Then again I cook Asian a lot.
Looks great!
I have never seen spicy sesame chicken. Looks delicious!

Awesome recipe, I would put this over brown rice, with a side of broccoli. Love the flavor packed into this!
