There’s nothing better than a glass of fresh apple cider in the fall, especially when you’ve picked the apples yourself. Making homemade apple cider with a slow juicer couldn’t be easier, especially in my Nama J2 juicer. This juicer does the work for you, so all you need to do is load it up with apples and let it run.

If you love grabbing apple cider at the farmer’s market, this recipe will be your new favorite. The flavor is fresh, crisp, and naturally sweet, just like the classic cider stand version but even more fresh!

You can choose any apple variety or even mix a few together for your perfect flavor blend. We love apple picking and always pick a ton of apples and make a few batches of apple cider. Plus, with the Nama J2 juicer, cleanup is easier and batch juicing is faster. That means more time sipping and less time scrubbing.

Homemade Apple Cider Ingredients

Fresh apples: The star of the show! We love Honeycrisp for sweetness, Pink Lady for tartness, or Gala for balance. Try mixing varieties for a richer flavor. No need to peel, just wash well and remove the cores and seeds.

How to Make Homemade Apple Cider

Start by washing your apples really well since we’re leaving the peels on. Core and and discard to save for a simmer pot or compost.

Add the apples into the hopper of the Nama J2 juicer. One of the best parts about this machine is that you can fill the hopper, close the lid, and let it juice a whole batch without babysitting it.

Let the juicer run until all the apples are processed with the spout open to pour the juice into the pitcher.

Pour the cider into glass jars or a pitcher. If you prefer pulp-free juice, strain it through a fine mesh sieve or nut milk bag.

Refrigerate right away, then sip and enjoy!

Storing and Reheating (If There’s Any Leftovers!)

Refrigerate: Store cider in a sealed glass jar for up to 72 hours.
Freeze: Pour into freezer-safe containers, leaving space for expansion, and freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheat: Warm gently on the stove over low heat. For a cozy twist, add a cinnamon stick while reheating.

How to Serve Homemade Apple Cider

Serve chilled straight from the fridge or gently warmed for a cozy treat. For parties, add a cinnamon stick, star anise, or orange slices for a festive twist.

Recipe Tips and Notes

  • I do not juice apple seeds, they contain amygdalin, which can be harmful.
  • For the best flavor, mix sweet and tart apple varieties.
  • Always store cider in glass jars filled to the top to reduce oxidation.
  • The cider will naturally separate, we recommend shaking before enjoying.
