I make these baked turkey meatballs often! I love making oven baked turkey meatballs instead of frying the meatballs in a pan, it’s much easier to just put all of the meatballs right onto a pan and bake all at once. This is a big batch of meatballs and you can even freeze half of the cooked batch for later use if you don’t want leftovers.
Whenever I make our turkey meatball recipe I make enough for leftovers since my family loves meatballs and they’re so versatile. My daughter is pretty picky and usually only likes beef meatballs, she said that these are the best turkey meatballs! She even ate them plain. 🙂
Our recipe is pretty clean, healthy baked turkey meatballs can go into quite a few dishes with the addition of cumin or if you leave the cumin out you can enjoy traditional Italian Turkey Meatballs.When we’re in the mood for carbs we do it with pasta and of course my mom’s garlic bread recipe. If I add cumin we serve with fresh Israeli Salad, Shopska Salad, or a Mediterranean Rice dish. This is a way to enjoy them with much less carbs. Hummus, Tahini, or Tzatziki make a great dipping sauce for turkey meatballs if you add the cumin.
If you want turkey meatballs with no breadcrumbs you can also add in some undercooked rice. The rice will absorb the moisture if gluten is a concern there are many gluten-free bread offerings that can easily be turned into breadcrumbs and a nice variety of already made gluten free breadcrumbs can be found in store and online.
How to make Turkey Meatballs
To make our ground turkey meatballs you’ll need:
- ground turkey
- fresh mint (this is for Middle Eastern Meatballs, leave out for Italian Turkey Meatballs)
- cumin (this is for Middle Eastern Meatballs, leave out for Italian Turkey Meatballs)
- large eggs
- salt + pepper to taste
How to cook meatballs in oven
We have a few tips for cooking meatballs in oven that will make it even easier!
- Use parchment paper for easier cleanup, we use unbleached parchment paper.
- Every meatball should be about the same size, use a small cookie scoop or measuring cup for consistency if needed. When they are the same size they’ll all cook and reach a safe temperature at the same.
- Make sure the meatballs aren’t touching if they’re touching they will steam and not bake nicely.
- There’s no need to turn your meatballs, as long as their a small size they should cook evenly on each side since they’re not touching and have room to cook.
- Spray them with olive oil – the olive oil spray helps the heat cook the meatballs, without it they can get very dry instead of crispy on the outside.
- Use fresh herbs for flavor and color.
How long do you bake turkey meatballs
These meatballs go into a 375 degree F oven for 25 minutes. Always cook poultry, ground turkey until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Our meatballs are on the smaller size so if you make them larger you’ll need to add some time, make them smaller, reduce the time. Just make sure they’re fully cooked.
Once they’re done you can simmer the turkey meatballs in sauce or enjoy without a sauce. Family loves meatball marinara over pasta and then the next we can even turn it into homemade meatball subs. These easy meatballs are made for more than just turkey meatballs and spaghetti, you can even make them into mini burgers! When I make them as burgers I’ll add in about 1/2 cup of chopped red pepper to the turkey meatball recipe.

Baked Turkey Meatballs
- 2 lbs turkey ground
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1/2 cup onion minced
- 1/2 cup parsley fresh, chopped
- 1 teaspoon mint fresh, chopped (for Middle Eastern Meatballs, leave out for Italian)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper fresh cracked
- 1 teaspoon oregano dried
- 1 teaspoon cumin (for Middle Eastern Meatballs, leave out for Italian)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Italian
- 2 large eggs
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Combine all of the ingredients together in a large bowl. Do not use mint and cumin if you're making Italian Style Meatballs.
- Use a small cookie scoop or spoon to get equal amounts of the turkey meatball mixture. Every meatball should be about the same size.
- Roll the mixture between your hands to form meatballs.
- Place the meatballs on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Spray the meatballs with olive oil spray.
- Bake meatballs for 25 minutes or until a thermometer shows 165 degrees F.
