Ingredients for baked hamburgers
- Ground Beef – We like using 80% lean ground beef. It makes for a juicy burger, but you can go up to 85% and still have a good burger as well. The grease drips in the pain so a lot of the fat drains out.
- Salt & Pepper – All you need is salt and pepper for a good burger seasoning. You could also add some granulated garlic as well.
- American Cheese – We love a good slice of American Cheese on our hamburgers. For dairy free we recommend Violife Just Like Mature Cheddar Slices.
- Burger Buns – The bun is what holds a burger together. Go simple, go seeded, or even go brioche!
- Desired Toppings – A simple topping of lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles hits the spot for most burger lovers. We also like using a burger sauce or making sliders with burgers with caramelized onions. While we usually use sweet and sour sauce for nuggets, it’s a hit in our house for burgers too!
How to make Baked Hamburgers
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Using a burger press or your hands, make 8 quarter-pound burgers and then place them onto a backing rack inserted into a baking sheet. (Ensure it’s oven safe!)
Season the burgers with salt and pepper, you could also add granulated garlic for more flavor if desired.
Bake the burgers for about 15 minutes, the burgers should temp at 160 degrees F with a food thermometer when done.
Recipe tips and variations
- We recommend making uniform sized burgers to ensure even cooking.
- A burger press is a great way to make perfectly shaped hamburger patties, but you can do it by hand as well.
- You can easily do this with hamburger patties from the butcher, just ask that they’re a quarter pound each.
Storage and reheating tips
- Refrigerate: Store any hamburger leftovers in an air-tight container in the refrigerator and enjoy within 4 days.
- Freeze: To freeze already baked hamburgers place the cooked burgers into an airtight freezer safe container and freeze for up to 4 months.
- Reheat: To reheat cooked burgers you can use your oven or air fryer at 350 degrees F for about 8 minutes flipping once in between. OR in an oven at 350 F degrees for 10 minutes.
How to serve
We like serving burgers with a side of french fries or tater tots.
Frequently asked questions
It’s not recommended to eat raw or undercooked ground beef according to The United States Department of Agriculture. It’s different than a steak which isn’t minced as all the surfaces that are exposed on the steak are cooked. The ground meat has to be cooked thoroughly as exposed surfaces are throughout the beef.
Using a rack helps the baked hamburgers cook evenly and also they get evenly baked without sitting in the baking juices.
