Try out these cowboy cookies, sprinkle chocolate chip cookies, or even these peppermint snowball cookies.

We love making these cookies for get togethers and parties. For special occasions you can also add cute little sprinkles, like edible gold star sprinkles or edible luster dust even.

    maple sugar cookie ingredients

    • Butter – Unsalted butter is great for these cookies, you can also use dairy free like Country Crock plant butter..
    • Light Brown Sugar – Make sure to pack the brown sugar into the measuring cup.
    • Maple Syrup – Make sure that you are using real maple syrup and not pancake syrup.
    • Egg – We recommend using room temperature eggs for cookie recipes.
    • Vanilla – The vanilla extract will compliment the maple syrup and bring more warmth flavors.
    • Flour – Make sure to measure the dry ingredients properly, we use the spoon and level method.
    • Baking Soda – This will help give the cookies a nice and fluffy texture.
    • Cinnamon – The cinnamon adds a nice warm tone to the maple syrup cookies.
    • Powdered Sugar – If the powdered sugar is lumpy then place through a sifter to remove lumps.
    • Milk – For a dairy free option we recommend Oatly full fat.
    • Toppings – You can add edible sprinkles, edible luster dust, roasted pecans, crumbled bacon, or leave the cookies bare just with the glaze.

    Recipe tips and variations

    • Make sure to take time to cream the butter and sugar together. This is going to help add texture to your cookies.
    • Don’t overmix the batter or it can make the cookies dense and chewier.
    • The glaze is going to enhance the flavor of the cookies, but you can leave it off if you want.
    • I do recommend using a cookie scoop to ensure the cookies are the same size.

    Storage and reheating tips

    • Room Temperature: Store any maple cookies leftovers in an air-tight container in the refrigerator and enjoy within 4-6 days.
    • Freeze: To freeze maple sugar cookies, place it in an airtight freezer safe container and freeze for 3-4 months.

    Instructions

    Maple Cookies

    • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
    • Add in the softened butter and light brown sugar to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes, until the mixture is light and fluffy.
    • Next add the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla. Mix again until well combined.
    • Next add the flour, baking soda, and cinnamon. Mix just until the dry ingredients are fully incorporated, but do not over mix.
    • Scoop out 2 tablespoon sized portions and roll them into smooth balls. Place the dough balls on the parchment lined baking sheet (make sure to place them at least 2” apart). Press each dough ball into a ½” thick disc.
    • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or just until the edges of the cookies are set. For chewy cookies, make sure not to overbake!
    • Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet. When the cookies are cool, make the maple glaze (below).

    Maple Glaze

    • In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon of milk.
    • If you would like a thinner glaze, whisk in the second tablespoon of milk.
    • Dip the cookies into the glaze and then place them on a wire rack to set.
    • (Optional) Add the chopped pecans or bacon pieces before the glaze sets, if using.
    • When the cookies are set, transfer them to an airtight container and store them at room temperature for up to three days.
