    Oven Baked Chicken Thighs

If you’re wanting an easy baked chicken thigh recipe this is it! We also have a delicious recipe for baked boneless chicken thighs using brown sugar and other seasonings, it’s a family and reader favorite!

We regularly purchase chicken thighs since they’re cheaper. Most of our purchases are organic, so when we’re purchasing organic chicken we can easily save up to $100 a month buying cheaper cuts, but still organic. Even popular food places like Chipotle or your favorite Chinese place use chicken thighs. It stays moist and juicy and harder to dry out like it is with chicken breast. Although I must say, I made a juicy and delicious oven baked chicken breast that is fool-proof! One reader emailed me to thank me for that recipe, comparing it to making sous vide chicken breast!

Chicken thighs are always on the meal plan in our house. They are so versatile and can be used is so many recipes although making them like this and sweet is my family’s favorite ways to enjoy them. If it was up to my daughter we’d have them with the brown sugar every single day. She also loves our bacon wrapped chicken thighs.

What seasoning do you put on chicken thighs?

Our chicken thigh seasoning recipe is simple and you most likely have all the spices at home. Season salt is a staple in most kitchen cabinets, if you don’t have it we highly suggest Lawry’s brand.

    • 1/4 pepper
    • 1 teaspoon season salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon parsley
    • 1/2 teaspoon basil

Mix up these seasonings and then season your chicken thighs.

For this chicken thigh recipe, we like to cook it right on the baking sheet. It gets super crispy and doesn’t risk steaming like it would a liner. The juices will boil off instead of boiling in a pile on the pan. I try to trim as much fat off as I can before cooking them to reduce the splatter on my pan. If you’re using a nonstick baking sheet it should be an easy cleanup.

For baking sheets, we’ve upgraded all of our baking sheets to USA Pan. They’re free of chemicals and use a silicone layer for nonstick. They clean up beautifully as well.

How long do you bake boneless chicken thighs at 425?

We cook boneless skinless chicken thighs for 25-30 minutes. You’ll want to check the temperature in the thickest part of the chicken thigh and make sure it reaches 165 degrees F. Thighs with skin on and bone in will take about 10-15 minutes longer to cook. Make sure to measure the meat and not the bone when measuring bone in chicken thighs.

Can I use this recipe for grilled chicken thighs?

Yes! This seasoning for our chicken thighs works on the grill, on the stove, and of course in the oven! You could also use this seasoning on other meats or even veggies! It’s a great all-purpose seasoning.

What to serve with oven baked chicken thighs?

We love serving with an air fryer baked potato, potato salad, or our spicy marinara with penne pasta. On Sunday we’ll make large batches of chicken thighs and chop it up for salads and nothing throughout the week. It’s convenient to have ready in the fridge and works great for adding to lunches as well. Great for packing into burritos or tacos.

    Cooking tips:

Oven baked boneless chicken thighs cooks up quickly, so if you use bone-in chicken thighs you’ll want to add a little more cooking time. Get skin on chicken thighs if you want crispy baked chicken thighs. The skin will get super crispy and crunchy! Since chicken thighs are fattier we typically get them with the skin off.

    recipe notes:

    • this recipe calls for boneless skinless chicken thighs, but you can also use bone-in chicken thighs with skin on them. Just place the skin side up and make sure to dry with paper towels so the skin can crisp up.
    • boneless chicken thighs will cook in about 30 minutes, but bone-in will take longer
    • remember to preheat your oven if you don’t preheat it will take longer.
    • we recommend using a baking sheet, like a cooking sheet. don’t use a baking dish that cannot be used at high temperatures.
    • this is an easy recipe for chicken thighs and you can adjust the seasonings to your liking. we sometimes add in a little garlic powder and smoked paprika.
    • when making this recipe we only used a small baking sheet for the 6 chicken thighs. you can fit much more on a large one for meal prep or entertaining.

In your recipe notes you mention to use an oil that can be used with high temperatures. In the ingredients and directions you don’t list any oil. When and how oil if so?

Sorry about that – removed that statement as this is chicken thighs, which don’t need any added oil. 🙂

It looks as though you spread the boneless, skinless chicken thighs out, rather than rolled up. Right? That’s a good way to do it. They’ll bake faster. I like that idea. Just want to be sure you unroll the thighs and put them in the dish that way. Nice recipe.
